Tour overview
The exact order depends on your pickup point and pace. Here is what the walk can include.
This three-hour private walk works like a time machine: be ready for stories from almost every era of Barcelona's history.
In Plaça de Sant Jaume you stand at the centre of the Roman city, where the Temple of Augustus stood. Today the square holds the Catalan government and the City Hall.
Another secret of the Gothic Quarter is its medieval public baths — a rare glimpse of how the city bathed eight centuries ago.
In Plaça del Rei the medieval Royal Palace surrounds the square where the count-kings lived.
The walk also reaches Santa Maria del Mar — plain outside, vast inside, built in only 54 years. Many locals call it the finest Gothic church in the city.
Today the district is very much alive — bars, restaurants, shops and museums woven into the historic fabric.
Available: daily
Gothic quarter
These are the oldest streets in Barcelona, and people still live over every arch: laundry on the balconies, a guitar from a doorway, a Roman tower built into the wall of a house. The quarter was built centuries before cars and can only be seen on foot.
Las Ramblas
The Ramblas began as a stream bed just outside the city walls. Today it is the busiest street in Barcelona, and we cross it on the way between the quarters.
Mercat de La Boqueria
The Boqueria is the old city's main food market. We can walk through: stalls of fruit and seafood, counters with Iberian ham, and a bar or two for a quick juice or a bite.
Plaça Reial
Plaça Reial sits just off the Ramblas: street lamps designed by the young Gaudí (his first public commission), palm trees, arcades and busy bars beneath them.
Barcelona Cathedral
Barcelona Cathedral, known as La Seu, was built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Inside it is dark and tall, with chapels from seven centuries of city history.
In the 15th-century cloister live thirteen white geese — one for each year of the life of Saint Eulalia, the city's young martyr. Your guide tells her story.
